Choosing the right pallet for a shipment is a practical decision, not a complicated one. The wrong size, grade, or compliance status can result in load failures, rejected freight, or a customs hold. The right pallet keeps goods moving without incident. For businesses sourcing industrial pallets in Dallas-Fort Worth and shipping locally, regionally, or internationally, the decision comes down to a handful of specific factors.
The 48x40 pallet is the standard across North American shipping and warehousing. It fits standard forklifts, pallet jacks, and trailer configurations used at loading docks across Fort Worth and the broader DFW area. For most freight, this is the starting point.
We supply Grade A 48x40 pallets for regular shipping applications. Grade A means structurally sound, minimal wear, and built for repeated use. Grade B is available for lighter applications where budget matters more than longevity. See our breakdown of Grade A vs. Grade B pallets if you need help deciding which fits your application.
When your freight does not fit a 48x40, a custom pallet is the answer. Off-dimension loads, specialty equipment, and products with unusual weight distribution all benefit from a pallet sized to match the load. Shipping a non-standard load on a standard pallet that does not fit creates instability and increases the risk of a load failure in transit.
We build custom wood pallets to any specification, including 40x40, 44x44, 44x42, 40x48, and any dimension your freight requires. Custom runs are available with no minimum order. If you have the measurements, we can build the pallet.
Any freight leaving the US on wood pallets needs to be on ISPM-15-certified heat-treated pallets. Most countries require the IPPC stamp on all wood packaging entering their borders. A non-compliant pallet can result in a hold at the port of entry, a returned shipment, or destruction of the load.
We produce heat-treated pallets in standard 48x40 and custom dimensions. For Fort Worth businesses exporting to the EU, UK, Canada, Mexico, Asia-Pacific, or anywhere else with ISPM-15 requirements, we can build to spec without minimum order requirements. Some loads require more than a flat platform. Oversized equipment, fragile goods, and specialty freight that needs structural containment are typically shipped on custom wood crates or skids. A crate fully encloses the load. A skid is an open-bottom platform built around a specific footprint.
We design and build custom crates and skids at our Dallas facility to exact customer specifications. No minimum order. If your freight requires a non-standard structure, our team can build it to the dimensions and load rating you need.
For internal transfers, short-haul shipments, or applications where Grade A consistency is not required, used and refurbished wood pallets offer a lower-cost option. Refurbished pallets are functional and structurally inspected before resale.
These are best suited for lighter loads and lower-risk applications. For active shipping rotations, heavy freight, and international shipments, Grade A new pallets are the right call. Contact our team for current used inventory and pricing.
Three questions determine the right product.
Where is the shipment going? International shipments require ISPM-15-certified heat-treated pallets. Domestic shipments do not.
What are the load dimensions and weight? Standard freight on a 48x40 is straightforward. Non-standard loads need custom dimensions. Heavy or high-value freight should be on Grade A.
How often will the pallet be used? Pallets going into active shipping rotations need to be built for repeated use. Single-use or light-duty pallets are a different calculation.
Answer those three questions before ordering and the right product becomes clear.
